“Do I have a normal penis?”
[image width=”222″ height=”275″ align=”left” title=”normal penis” alt=”do I have a normal penis” border=”” caption=”” zoom=”0″]/images/normal-penis.jpg[/image]This is a question that most men have about their penis at some point in their lives. While most men are concerned about penis size – specifically length and girth – they might not realize that for many women, the overall “penile appearance” is arguably the most important factor.
In fact, the “general cosmetic appearance” of a man’s penis is very important to women, according to new research published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. The study findings could reassure men with surgically corrected hypospadias, a congenital condition in which the urethra (the tube that allows urine and semen to leave the body) opens on the underside of the penis instead of the tip. Usually, the condition is corrected before a boy’s first birthday. Still, men with corrected hypospadias often worry about how their penis looks to sexual partners.
A group of Swiss researchers asked 105 women between the ages of 16 and 45 to rate 20 photosets of male genitalia. Ten of the photosets showed circumcised penises. The others showed penises with surgically corrected hypospadias. Photos included several different angles.
The women rated the circumcised penises as the most “normal-looking.” But many of the corrected penises were considered just as normal-looking. (Circumcised penises were chosen for the study because they more closely resemble those with corrected hypospadias.)

A good looking penis is a turn on for women.

While general cosmetic appearance was most important, the location of the urethral opening was at the bottom of the list.
The results can be useful for healthcare providers who counsel men with corrected hypospadias, the researchers noted. Understanding that partners are unlikely to be bothered by corrected genitals – and might not even notice – may improve a man’s genital self-image and sexual self-confidence.
Now granted, there is not that much you can do to change the appearance of your penis – however it should provide some comfort to men knowing that size is by no means the only factor that women consider when judging your penis. It also means that you should try and take good care of your penis – perhaps a trip to the spa is in order?
Your penis changes as you get older.
[image width=”300″ height=”185″ align=”left” title=”penis and aging” alt=”penises change with age” border=”” caption=”” zoom=”0″]/images/penis-and-age.jpg[/image]It’s no secret that a man’s sexual function declines with age. As his testosterone level falls, it takes more to arouse him. Once aroused, he takes longer to get an erection and to achieve orgasm and, following orgasm, to become aroused again.
Age brings marked declines in semen volume and sperm quality. Erectile dysfunction (ED), or impotence, is clearly linked to advancing years; studies show that between the ages of 40 and 70, the percentage of potent men falls from 60% to roughly 30%.
And that’s not all. Recent research confirms what men have long suspected and, in some cases, feared. The penis itself undergoes significant changes as a man moves from his sexual prime — around age 30 for most guys — into middle age and on to older age.
Changes include:
Appearance: There are 2 major changes with the penis as men get older. The head of the penis gradually loses its purplish color as a result of reduced blood flow. Also, there is a slow loss of pubic hair. This is because as men get older and testosterone production decreases, the penis gradually reverts to its prepubertal, mostly hairless state.
Penis Size: Weight gain is common as we age, and as fat accumulates on the lower abdomen, the apparent size of the penis gets smaller. A bigger belly can effectively make the penis look 1 inch smaller than it was before – however on the positive side, overweight men can appear to gain up to an inch in penis size simply by losing weight!
In addition to this apparent shrinkage (which is reversible) the penis tends to undergo an actual (and irreversible) reduction in size. The reduction — in both length and thickness — typically isn’t dramatic but may be noticeable. “If a man’s erect penis is 6 inches long when he is in his 30s, it might be 5 or 5-and-a-half inches when he reaches his 60s or 70’s.”
While men don’t have much say in the overall appearance of their penis – we do have the ability to improve both its performance, size, and endurance.
